Over one million words exist in the Oxford English Dictionary. Of these, some 200,000 are used by English speakers, with 20,000 most commonly used, although nowadays, a vocabulary of 10,000 words is closer to the average. It can be no surprise then that I stand in awe of authors: their ability to take a cluster of words, coax, tease and massage them and then bestow readers with their gift is magic. Moreover, it is pure alchemy.
I do my best to ensure these individual visions are maintained and enhanced, with appropriate clarity, intensity, brevity, intelligence, pathos, bathos, integrity, vision, insight, irony … and any other device to hand (including nagging) to add flow, improve structure and iron out oopsies.
I cannot tell your tale for you – it is your voice that should be heard – but I will do everything I can to help you to make it the best it can be. Books enrich readers and open doors. They change lives, alter perceptions, entertain, inform, break down barriers, illuminate and transport the reader to new worlds.
